





This drawing is now to be called a Mote of Dust on a Sunbeam.
I listened to Brian Cox today talking about why we need explorers, which makes sense really.
In it he quotes Carl Sagan talking about a photo taken of the Earth from….Saturn, or Mars, or somewhere far away.
And the image depicts the earth as a tiny spec in a cylindrical beam of light.
It reminds me of a childs’ toy, one of those coloured tubes you have to blow into, to keep a ping pong ball aloft.
I recommend a listen.
I don’t care much for people who talk all smiley, like Brian does.
But I do care for what he says about the environment, our beginnings, the start of the universe and his eagerness to portray science and discovery as wondrous rather than remote and nerdy.
